Obituary for Lillie B. Hathorn

To Everything is a Season, and a Time to Every Purpose under the Heaven:
A Time to be Born, and a Time to Die; Ecclesiastes 3: 1-2

Our beloved, Lillie Bell Hathorn, was called home to our Lord on Thursday, May 3, 2018. Born on, February 13, 1940 to the late Forest “Suge” and Isabelle Gholar. Lillie was educated in Prentiss Mississippi. As a young girl, she worked on her parent’s farm until she was married. She gave her life to Christ at an early age and attended Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Prentiss, Mississippi, where she learned to have faith in God.

She married George W. Hathorn Jr. On March 5, 1959, and moved to the Gulf Coast in 1963. To this union, there was a blessing of four children. She was a stay-at-home mother, raising her kids and a baby sitter for many working parents in the neighborhood; until her children were big enough to be independent. After her divorce, Lillie worked at the Gulfport Holiday Inn for over 25 years as a housekeeper and earned awards for her dedicated years of service and her superior work ethic. She left the Holiday Inn, in September of 1995 to work at the Grand Casino, until Hurricane Katrina destroyed the Casino in August 2005. She returned to work after Hurricane Katrina to work for Gulfport Memorial Hospital as a housekeeper until her retirement in 2008. Lillie also had a small business working privately for clients domestically on the Gulf Coast.

Lillie was a loving, caring mother to family and friends. Her vivacious personality and youthful spirit touched all who knew her. She helped anyone who ever asked for it. She enjoyed giving advice on love and relationships. She would often say she wrote the book about men, making you laugh out loud just to hear her talk about the book she never wrote. She truly missed her calling of becoming a comedian. Lillie would often shoot from the hip when giving you advice with no holds barred, being completely honest in her delivery. However, it was truly genuine and heartfelt. She was a very generous giver to anyone that asked for help.

Lillie Bell, also enjoyed dancing, shopping and traveling with friends and family. She loved her clothes, her fashion hats, smelling good and looking good at all times. She will be missed by all who knew her; she truly enjoyed her life to the fullest. Thanks are to God for his goodness grace and mercy for a rich life.

In her memories preceded in death her son, Joe Glen Hathorn, in January, 2010; her parents, Forest and Isabell; sisters, Lula Mae Price, Annie Mae Price, and Ambers Gholar; brothers, Luther Gholar and Sylvester Gholar.
