Betty Jewel McCann

Betty Jewel McCann, 71, a lifelong resident of Leakesville, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2026. Born on September 23, 1954, in Leakesville, she was the beloved daughter of Marie Davis Brown. Betty grew up rooted in family, faith, and community, carrying those values with her throughout her life.

She attended Greene County Vocational School, where she developed skills that led her into dedicated work within the manufacturing and dietary fields. Betty took pride in her work and in the relationships she built along the way. Her kindness, resilience, and steady presence made her someone people naturally gravitated toward.

Betty was preceded in death by her mother, Marie; her sisters, Mattie Frances and Sandra Kay; and her eight brothers, Thomas Theodore, Jimmy Daryl, Ivory Joe, Willie Ray, Wilbur Ray, John Henry, John Wesley, and Johnny Lee. Their memories remained close to her heart throughout her life.

She leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her: one sister, Mary Ruth; one brother, Kary Wayne; her daughters, Degenia and Demetria; three grandchildren, Kantria (Robert) Ja’Quine, ( Briana) and Ma’Khiya; and six great‑grandchildren, Aubrey, Soleil, Jaislen, Solene, Sire, and Ja’Quine “Duece.” She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and friends who were touched by her warmth and unwavering love.

Betty’s life was defined by quiet strength, deep compassion, and an unshakeable devotion to her family. She found joy in simple moments—sharing meals, offering encouragement, and celebrating the accomplishments of those she loved. Her legacy lives on in the generations she nurtured and the hearts she shaped.

Funeral services for Betty Jewel McCann will be held on Monday, September 21, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at New Covenant Ministries, 35697 Hwy 57, Leakesville, MS 39451.
