Brenda J. Haygood

Brenda J. Haygood, 79, a resident of D’Iberville, MS, passed away on August 27, 2026, peacefully at home.

Brenda was born in Gulfport, MS, on June 25, 1947, the daughter of Arthur and Evelyn Spann. Brenda graduated from 33rd Ave. High in 1965, and attended Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA.

Brenda married Eric Haygood on September 3, 1966, and renewed her vows on September 3, 2004; and to this union was born her only child, Erika R. Haygood Carter, whom she adored and loved dearly.

Brenda spent her 37-year working career as a federal government employee as supply clerk and retired as an assistant fleet manager. She served as the Blacks in Government program manager, was honored as the Biloxi Branch NAACP Mother of the Year, she volunteered in the Biloxi VA Cemetery’s “Forgotten Hero “program, and was an active member of Infinity Church - The Apostolic Assembly until becoming ill.

Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Evelyn Spann, and her brother Willie Spann.

Brenda is survived by her husband Eric Haygood, her daughter and son-in-law Erika and Kevin Carter; her sisters Patricia and Paula Spann; and brother Arthur Spann; and a host of nieces and nephews, as well as cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at 12:00 pm, at Infinity Church - The Apostolic Assembly. Visitation will start at 11:00 am.
