Obituary for Ronald K Robinson, Sr.

Mr. Ronald Keith Robinson, Sr. was born in Jamaica, West Indies on July 4, 1927, the son, of Levy Robinson and Rebecca Ellison. Life was hard, but Ronald learned the value of hard work and dedication to dreams. After graduating high school, Ronald advanced a degree in woodworking. Dreams of a better life compelled Ronald to become a Sea Merchant, transporting products to ports around the world. A man of responsibility, Ronald dutifully sent money home to Jamaica to support his grandmother, mother, and other family members.
After years traveling the world, Ronald met Marie Nicholas during one of his merchant trips to the Mississippi Coast. A romance grew which led to marriage and the birth of their five children: Ronald (Earlene) Robinson Jr., Michael (Delores) Robinson, Nicholas Robinson Sr., Lydia (Michael Sr.) Harris, and Darline Robinson Gaylord. Although the marriage ended, friendship and devotion to family continued.
A kind and gentleman, Ron was devoted to his community and serving others. His strong belief in education compelled Ronald to work to establish the first Head Start in Jackson County. His service to others brought a new love into his life. While serving on the Head Start Board, he met and fell in love with Louise Haynes Dilworth. He initially invited her to lunch to discuss business, but a life-long love ensued that would bring joy to the heart. A man with much love to give, Ronald became the father of Louise’s sons: Derbert (Robin) Dilworth, Jr. and Darrell Dilworth, when he and Louise were united in holy matrimony.
Ronald was a wonderful man, who did his best to support those he loved.
A man of many accomplishments, Mr. Robinson was President and Business Agent for the International Longshoremen Association (ILA Local 1752 and 1957). He was also Vice-President, ILA South Atlantic, and Gulf Coast District; Chairman of the Board of Mississippi Regional Housing Authority VIII. Vice-President of Jackson County Port Authority; member of the Jackson County Economic Development Foundation. He also served as President of Jackson County Airport Authority and as a member of the National Skills Standards Board. Life member of the NAACP for twenty-plus years. He was also a longtime member of the Jackson County Democratic Executive Committee. And he was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as President of the Trustee Board.
After a long battle with illness, Ronald departed his earthly tabernacle at the blessed age of 92. Ronald leaves a legacy of devotion to family, service to community and commitment to excellence. He will be remembered as a man of strength and perseverance who will be greatly missed by those who had the honor of knowing him. Although he was a man of few words, his actions have left an indelible impact on us all.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Kenneth Dunckley.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his faithful wife, Louise H. Robinson; a devoted sister, Rachel Price; his loving children, 21 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren. And a host of other relatives and friends.
