Obituary for Rev. Lee James Adams, Jr.

Rev. Lee James Adams, Jr., age 69, a resident of D’Iberville, MS, passed away from natural causes, on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at his home. He was born in Gulfport, MS, on July 17, 1947, the son of Lee and Delaura Adams.

Rev. Adams graduated with Honors from 33rd Ave High School in 1964, and then attended Tuskegee Institute, in Tuskegee, AL. He left Tuskegee to enter the U.S. Air Force, and served two tours of duty in Vietnam during the Vietnam War.

Rev. Adams spent his working career in various capacities before being called to the ministry in 1988, and became an ordained minister in February 1990. He took theological courses at William Carey University, and received an Associates Degree in Accounting at Phillips Business College.

Rev. Adams began his pastoral journey at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Wiggins, MS, and then in 1992 became the pastor of The Little Rock Missionary Baptist Church, located in Gulfport, Ms., which had been his church since childhood. He always believed that serving the Lord is an opportunity to follow His Word, and that the greatest thing you can do in this world is to help someone. He was a pillar of the Gulfport community, serving as a spiritual leader to members and non-members alike. He served as Second Vice Moderator of the Gulf Coast Missionary Baptist District Association.

Rev. Adams was instrumental in the recovery of the Gulfport community from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Under his leadership, and in partnership with World Hope International, hundreds of families were provided with food, clothing, supplies, and spiritual guidance during that most disturbing time. The church served as command center and provided shelter for over 3000 volunteers from all over the world. He served as pastor of Little Rock until his retirement in 2010.

He spent his retirement years doing the things that he enjoyed most, which included spending valuable time with his family and his many friends, cooking, watching sports (especially his beloved New York Yankees), and watching his favorite Westerns. He continued to serve The Lord by uniting with The Mt. Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, in Gulfport, Ms.

Rev. Adams was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his sisters Dr. Barbara L. White of Biloxi, and Mrs. Vera Lane of Pearland, TX; and by his brother, Gary Famous Adams of Navarre, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives, and friends.

RICHMOND-AUGUST FUNERAL HOME has been entrusted with the care of Rev. Lee James Adams, Jr.
