Obituary for Mass Mack Daniels

Mass Mack Daniels of Gulfport, Mississippi departed this life on Wednesday, August 16, 2017, at Memorial Hospital at Gulfport while surrounded by family.

Mass, also called “Flea”, “Junior”, and affectionately called “Uncle Junior”, was the youngest of eleven children born to Eddie Mack Daniels, Sr. and Lena Bell Walker. Mass was born on July 11, 1952, in Sardis, Alabama and moved with family to Gulfport while still a toddler. Mass joined Little Rock Baptist Church in the Gaston Point Community in Gulfport at eleven years old. He graduated from Gulfport High School (Commodores) in 1970 and shortly after joined the Air Force Reserve where he became a skilled carpenter and painter. Mass worked over the years as a painter and handyman.

“Flea” was very athletic. He displayed his athleticism on the field with several local and semi pro teams including the Biloxi Buccaneers and the Gulf Coast Sluggers. “Flea” was called a “tremendous” baseball player. He was also quick on his feet which aided him while playing defensive back and punt return for the Biloxi Buccaneers in the mid-1970s.

In 1972, Mass was briefly married and to this union his first daughter, Tahirih Quivada, was born.

Later in 1985, Mass married his love, Dorothy McBride, and to this union two daughters were born, Sherri Pytrice and Eve Chante’.

Mass was preceded in death by his mother, Lena Bell Daniels Walker; father, Eddie Mack Daniels, Sr.; wife, Dorothy McBride Daniels; stepfather, Nick Walker; brother, Eddie Mack Daniels, Jr.; and sisters, Lorraine Gates and Rosilyn Eberhart.

Mass leaves to cherish his memory three beautiful and talented daughters, Tahirih Daniels of Gulfport, Sherri (Daren) Alford of North Carolina, and Eve Daniels of Gulfport; four grandchildren, Tiarrah, Jayla, Thijs and Christian; one great-grandchild, Shiloh, all of Gulfport; brothers, Lucious (Ruby) Daniel and Wendell (Judy) Daniels of Gulfport; sisters, Iantha Magee of Fort Wayne, IN, Ruthie Casey and Alice Barkum of Gulfport, Rosemary (Bill) Burns of Selma, AL, and Margaret (Milos) Cassell of Euclid, OH; a special cousin/brother, Robert McCord, Sr.; a host of nieces and nephews whom he adored (and who adored him); and two very close and dear friends, Joseph “BoBo” Buckner and Kelvin “KK” Jefferson.

RICHMOND-AUGUST FUNERAL HOME has been entrusted with the care of Mr. Mass Mack Daniels. Inquiries: 228-436-6722.
