Verna L. Diaz

Verna Lynn McGee Diaz, 64, passed away peacefully with the love of her life by her side. She was born on April 11, 1961, in the historic French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana, to Jerrell Lane McGee and Linda Elaine Bangs McGee.

Verna lived a life filled with love, laughter, and devotion to those around her. She was known for her warm spirit, kind heart, and the beautiful smile she shared with everyone she met. Verna truly loved people and had a way of making others feel welcomed and valued wherever she went. She loved music of all kinds—including house music, reggae, hip hop, and R&B—and she carried a joyful spirit wherever she went. No matter the moment, Verna rarely stopped smiling.

On February 25, Verna married the love of her life, Ray A. Diaz. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love and partnership. Together for 41 years and married for 38 of those years, Verna and Ray shared a life built on companionship, friendship, and unwavering devotion. They enjoyed doing everything together and embraced life side by side.

Verna enjoyed riding motorcycles and cherished time spent at Miami Beach, Florida, where the sunshine, ocean breeze, and sound of the waves brought her peace and happiness.

Because of a torn heart muscle, Verna was unable to have children of her own. However, her heart was full of love, which she generously gave to the many animals she cared for. She was a devoted pet mom to her beloved fur family of nine indoor cats and four dogs, who brought her endless joy and companionship.

Those who knew Verna will remember her as a wonderful woman who loved deeply, lived fully, and greeted life with a constant smile.

Her final moments reflected the same love that defined her life—she passed away peacefully in her husband’s arms.

Verna’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
