Rose Elicia “Lisa” Whittle Barnes, a lifelong resident of Gulfport, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026, at her family’s home. She was 60 years old.
Lisa was born on July 2, 1965, in Gulfport, Mississippi, to Louis Whittle, Sr. and Rosetta L. Simmons.
A woman of deep faith, Lisa loved the Lord and devoted much of her life to encouraging and uplifting others. She was a faithful member of Infinity Church – The Apostolic Assembly for more than 20 years, where she was known as a preacher, a prayer warrior, and a woman who never hesitated to speak the truth in love. Those who knew her best often described her as strong, courageous, and full of conviction—a woman who would tell you the truth while still loving you deeply.
Lisa had a bubbly and outgoing personality and was known for her wonderful sense of humor. She was creative and enjoyed writing plays and short stories, painting, and expressing herself through her imagination. She also loved cooking and found joy in preparing large meals for her children, family, and anyone who happened to stop by. Her specialties included goulash, gumbo, waterbread, and her children’s favorite—her famous chicken dressing, which they happily enjoyed year-round.
Her home was known throughout the neighborhood as a place of warmth and welcome. Neighborhood children gathered there often, knowing that Lisa’s door—and kitchen—were always open. Even when her own children argued with their friends, those same friends were still welcome at Lisa’s table.
Lisa loved finding a good bargain and could often be found shopping at Finders Keepers, happily searching through the bins for notebooks or anything else that caught her eye.
Family time meant everything to her. She especially enjoyed playing Spades with her family, though she was known to jokingly remove a partner from the table if they didn’t play the game quite right.
Throughout her working years, Lisa served her community in several roles. She worked as a patrol officer for the City of Gulfport, later serving as a security officer at Grand Casino and Island View Casino, and eventually became a familiar and friendly face to many during her years as a greeter at Walmart.
To her children, Lisa was more than a mother—she was their superhero. Strong, protective, and full of love, she was affectionately described as a “female Iron Man.” Her strength, courage, and unwavering love for her family defined her life.
Lisa leaves to cherish her memory her loving mother; her five children; 21 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; her siblings; her Infinity Church family; and a community of friends whose lives were touched by her kindness, laughter, and unwavering faith.
Though she will be deeply missed, her life was a testimony of faith, love, and perseverance. As the scripture reminds us in 2 Timothy 4:7, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” Lisa fought faithfully, loved deeply, and now rests in the presence of the Lord she served so devotedly.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 11:00 am, at Infinity Church The Apostolic Assembly - D'Iberville. Visitation will start at 10:00 am.
