Rebecca D. Sherman

January 15, 1951 — December 25, 2025

Ms. Rebecca St. John Sherman was born on January 15, 1951, and peacefully passed away on December 25, 2025. She was a woman whose life was marked by quiet strength, unwavering faith, and a deep, abiding love for her family.

Rebecca loved her family more than anything in this world, and her grandchildren held an especially cherished place in her heart. She was fiercely protective of them, watching over their lives with tenderness, wisdom, and prayer. Her love was not loud, but it was constant, sacrificial, and sure.

She was married to her beloved husband, JP Sherman, for 52 beautiful years, sharing a bond rooted in faith, trust, and devotion. Their marriage was a true partnership under God. Together, Rebecca and JP lived out their faith through service. They would cook and serve food to the homeless, taking time not only to feed them but to fellowship with them, treating each person with dignity, compassion, and love.

Rebecca faithfully supported her husband in ministry, including accompanying him on a mission trip to Guatemala, where they ministered to pastors and their wives. Her presence, encouragement, and quiet strength were a blessing to many, both near and far.

A woman of deep faith, Rebecca loved the Lord wholeheartedly. She lived her life as a Proverbs 31 woman—faithful, wise, humble, and devoted—long before others ever took notice. Though quiet in nature, when she spoke, her words carried weight, purpose, and truth. People listened, because her words were seasoned with prayer and guided by God.

So strong was Rebecca’s spiritual discernment that, before his passing, JP would often ask her if the Lord had spoken the same word to her that he believed God had spoken to him. He trusted her ability to hear and discern God’s voice, and he would wait for her confirmation before moving forward. Rebecca knew the voice of the Lord, and she walked in obedience to it.

Rebecca had a true servant’s heart and lived a life marked by selflessness. She gave of herself freely, often behind the scenes, never seeking recognition but always willing to serve wherever she was needed. Her life was a living testimony of faith in action.

She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, humility, and service that will continue through her family for generations to come. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her example will forever remain.

Ms. Rebecca was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. James P. Sherman, daughter, Cristy Trehern, parents, Claude and Ruth St. John, her siblings, Elizabeth Thompson, Evelyn Coley (J.T.), Nancy Alford (Travis), Martha Heath, Billy St. John (Peggy), Alfred St. John, Jim St. John, and Otis St. John.

She is survived by her son, Tony (Andrea) Sherman, and daughter, Amy (Waylon) Loper. Her greatest joys in life, her grandchildren, Mason (Raena) Dambrino, Trace Dambrino, Eric (Melanie) Dambrino, River Dambrino, Garret Bullock, Preslyn Sherman, Ava Loper, Allie Loper, and Beckett Loper, and great grandchildren, Mackenzie, Cooper, and Koen; and her sisters-in-law, Sharon St. John and Mary Ann St. John.
