Odis Lee “New Hope”, Clemons, age 72, transitioned from his earthly home to his heavenly home on April 02, 2024, at Singing River Hospital in Gulfport, MS.

Odis was born in Philadelphia, MS, on June 01, 1951, as the fourth child of Rev. Leo Clemons and Maggie Coleman Clemons.   Odis attended Booker T. Washington and Philadelphia High Schools.

After relocating to Gulfport, Odis married Augusta Inez Acker.*   This union was blessed with two children, Michelle Clemons and Odis Clemons, and a bonus daughter, Deborah Deloach.

Odis was employed for several years at Ingall’s Shipbuilding, in Pascagoula, Ms.   He would later spend the rest of his professional career as an employee of MS Power Company in Gulfport.  He was employed with Mississippi Power for forty years, until his health forced him to retire in 2018.

Odis never met a stranger and was always jovial, wanting to put a smile on someone’s face.   He was very active not only in the Gulfport community but sought opportunities throughout the Gulf Coast to aid others.   He also pursued several business ventures that included operating a club and investing in real estate.  He truly enjoyed working with youth sports, organizing fundraisers for individuals facing various challenges, and promoting concerts/musical events.  A classy dresser, shopping was his passion.   He couldn’t pass up what he referred to as a “good deal”.  Waffle House, Bargain Bin, and Dirt Cheap were his favorites.   He was also an avid gardener and loved discussing politics.

Odis is preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Leo Clemons and Maggie L. Gates; granddaughter, Tiana Augusta Clemons; three brothers, Mac Arthur, Jimmy Lee, and Tommy Dee Clemons.

Odis is survived by his children, Odis (Mary V.)
