Leon Jenkins, a fun-loving man with an incredible sense of humor, passed away on May 24th, 2023 in Gulfport, MS. He was an electrical craftsman at Ingalls before enlisting in the United States Navy where he served as a Seaman.
Born on April 3rd, 1949, in Bassfield, MS, Leon graduated from Carver High School in 1966. During his school years, Leon was involved in various extracurricular activities and was known for his musical talent.
After completing his studies, Leon worked as an electrical craftsman at Ingalls but soon realized that his calling was to serve the country. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served as a Seaman.
Throughout his life, music remained at the center of Leon's heart. He was a skilled musician who could play the organ, drums and guitar and he had a great voice to match. Despite being able to play all genres of music, gospel music held a special place in his heart. During his musical career, Leon played with legends such as BB King and Bobby Rush. His favorite song to sing and perform was "Because He Lives," which will forever be remembered by those who had the privilege of hearing him sing it.
Leon had a magnetic personality that drew people towards him. His easy-going nature made him approachable and likable by everyone he met - this is illustrated by the many friends that mourn him today.
Leon's passing has left behind many broken hearts. Nevertheless - it is important to pay tribute to this remarkable man who lived life with passion and joy until his last breath. Through his kind spirit, cheerful disposition and extraordinary talent - he will forever be remembered by all those whose lives he touched.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 2, 2023, at Infinity Funeral Home Chapel, at 11:00 am. Visitation will start at 10:00 am.
