Kari Brooks, a beloved elementary school teacher, devoted caregiver, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2025, in Gulfport, Mississippi, surrounded by the love of her husband, David, and her daughter, Randi. Born on December 29, 1959, in Ava, Missouri, Kari was not only an educator but also a nurturing presence in her community, embodying the spirit of kindness and generosity throughout her life.
Kari’s passion for teaching extended beyond the classroom. Known affectionately as the neighborhood mom, she opened her heart and home to children who found themselves in need of support. A humble individual, she bought warm coats for kids during the winter and dedicated her evenings to feeding the homeless, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to helping others.
Her personal values were equally reflected in her role as a dutiful caretaker of her parents, Coy Brown and Beverly Robertson Brown, up until their passing. Kari’s strength and compassion knew no bounds, and her legacy will forever resonate in the lives she touched.
Kari was proud of her 49-year marriage to her childhood sweetheart, David Brooks. Their love story began when they met as teenagers outside a liquor store and continued as they got married, setting the foundation for a remarkable life together. Throughout their marriage, Kari and David built a loving family that includes their son David Brooks (Brandy) and daughters Lindsey (Fred), Regina Webb (Jody), and Randi Brooks (Andrew).
Kari’s family was enriched by the presence of DeMarcus Lett, who was like a son to her, and her best friend Fran. She was also a proud grandmother to eight grandchildren: Elijah, Matthew, Kayrel, Jeremiah, Wyatt, Megan, Kailah, and Kelton "Corted", and 5 great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
Kari was preceded in death by her son, William Edward, and her brother Kirk Robertson.
She was also an Amateur Ham Radio Operator. In her free time, Kari had a passion for studying genealogy and often delved into the family’s ancestry, reflecting her love for history. This deep interest connected her to her roots and provided her with joy and fulfillment.
Kari Brooks is survived by her devoted husband, David; her loving children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her brother, Dustin Robertson, her best friend, Fran; and the numerous lives she impacted throughout her journey. Although she leaves behind a profound sense of loss, her legacy of compassion, love, and community spirit will forever be cherished by all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held at a later date.
