John Thomas Scobba

John Thomas Scobba, 86, known as “Jack” of Jacksonville, FL, passed away surrounded by his family on April 18, 2023, in Sandston, VA.

He was the son of the late Monte and Marie Scobba of Algona, IA.

In 1980 Jack was stationed in Hawaii where he met and married Marguerite. Once his tour ended in Hawaii, he was transferred to his next duty station in Pensacola, FL. After about two years in Pensacola, FL, he was transferred to Mayport Naval Station in Jacksonville, FL. It was there that they made the decision that Jacksonville would be home.

Jack retired from the Navy as a Chief Petty Officer. Quite frequently, Marguerite had him on the road visiting family from Jacksonville to VA, GA, MS, TX, CA, NV and across the water to Hawaii.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years Marguerite Burney Tatum Scobba, brother Jerome Scobba, two sister Sally and Patricia, sister-in-law Betty Pollard, brother in laws Jerome Shaw, John L Burney Jr and James Pollard Sr.

Jack is survived by his son James (Glenda), grandson Nicholas A Scobba, granddaughter Elizabeth A Scobba, brother Larry (Carol), sisters Julia Van Brunt, Mary Evers, Sheila (John) Banning, 14 nieces and nephews, sister-in-law Geraldine Jackson. He also will be missed by the six children, 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren of his beloved wife Marguerite.
