Iola Whiting Weir

Iola Whiting Weir was born November 8, 1922 in Franksville, AL to James Koens and Hattie Williams Koens. Iola loved life and lived it to the fullest. An excellent cook, she was known for her dishes such as collard greens and cornbread and salmon patties. Iolas even tempered, forgiving nature was an example to those around her. She was committed to her family and sought to put them first in her life. Following her retirement from the Sun Tan Motel, Iola enjoyed spending time visiting area casinos where nickel slots were her favorite game of choice. Iola Whiting Weir entered into her rest, Tuesday, June 11, 2013 from her home of more than seventy years. She will be missed by those she left behind. Iola was preceded in death by her husband James Weir, one daughter, Linda Kay Whiting, one niece, Minnie Pearl (Averhart) Tubbs and two nephews, Charles Koens and Thomas Averhart. She leaves to cherish her memory, a devoted daughter, Mhyna (Mark) McCauley of Ocean Springs, MS and a loving son, Lester (Anita) Averhart of Biloxi, MS, four grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. A memorial service for Mrs. Weir will be held, Saturday, June 15, 2013 at the chapel of Richmond-August Funeral Home, 189 Main St. Biloxi, beginning at 11am. The family of Iola W.
