Gerry Bell Chatman was born in Pine Bluff, AR, on July 11, 1952, to the late Earline Griswold Chatman and Richard Bell. He accepted God’s eternal salvation at a young age at the Highland Missionary Church at Pine Bluff, AR, under the leadership of Pastor S. B. Scott.
Gerry attended and graduated from Coleman School in 1970 in Pine Bluff, AR. After High School, Gerry enlisted in the U. S. Air Force and served honorably.
After the Air Force, Gerry attended Pines Vocational Technical School, where he graduated with a degree in Electricity.
Gerry worked in various positions with different companies as an Electrician, as well as having a long career in the housing industry performing various tasks. Gerry enjoyed wood crafts, working crossword puzzles, and word games. He also enjoyed attending the Men’s Sunday School Class and Church Services at the First Missionary Baptist Church with his family.
Gerry married Carrie Marie Warren in Pine Bluff, AR, on July 8, 1992, and she preceded him in death. From this blessed union, they had three offspring that were very inspirational in Gerry’s life: Deirdre Hall (Chad) of Little Rock, AR, Corey Chatman of Fort Smith, AR, and Lee’Chara Chatman of Little Rock, AR. Gerry will be remembered for being a loving father and faithful friend to many.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earline, and his wife, Carrie, and his brother, Ray Lynn Watson. He leaves to cherish his memory, his three children, Deirdre, Corey and Lee’Chara, his brother Paul Chatman (Grace) of Little Rock, AR, and his sister Ruby Jewel Jackson of Biloxi, MS, several grandchildren, a host of nieces (notably Kim Warren) and nephews, loving cousins, and two life-long childhood friends, Joe Hall and Edward Darrough, as well as the lasting friendships he developed at the First Missionary Baptist Church at Biloxi, MS.
