A chapter is completed. A page is turned. A life well lived. George Abraham Batiste fought a good fight. The battle is over. This solder has laid down his burdens. George Abraham Batiste was born in Lake Charles, LA on February 12, 1951 to Yvonne Batiste August and Jimmie Lee Dozier. He was the eldest of his six siblings. He attended First Ward Elementary School. Due to an illness in his youth, he then attended the Louisiana School for the Deaf on the campus of Southern University until the completion of high school. After high school graduation, George attended Delgado Community College in New Orleans and Gallaudet College in Washington DC. He also attended Sowela Technical Institute in Lake Charles, LA. George was baptized at an early age by the late Rev. W.C. Clark at Christian Baptist Church. He was a man who enjoyed helping others and could be found volunteering at local shelters and food banks. George was a gifted artist and avid reader whose love for knowledge was who could be found George was an avid basketball player and as youth, stood out on the basketball court amongst his peers. George is preceded in death by his mother Yvonne Batiste August and his father Jimmy Dozier, in addition to his maternal grandmother Rub Ina Woods. He leaves to mourn his passing 3 brothers, Bishop Rick August (Evangelist Tammi August) of Biloxi, MS, Rev. Donald Ray Frank of Port Arthur, TX, and Samuel Batiste of Atlanta, GA; 3 sisters: Ruth Duron, Jacqueline West (William West), and Vidalia August, all of Lake Charles, LA; a host of nephews and nieces, and endless amounts of friends he touched along the way. He will be sadly missed and fully remembered by all. Services will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, January 7, 2021, at Infinity Funeral Home with visitation one hour before. The family of Mr. George A. Batiste is grateful for every act of kindness shown toward them during their season of loss.
