Fred Arsby Woullard

Fred Arsby Woullard, the son of the late Clayton Woullard and Frances Springs Woullard, was born on February 10th, 1948 in Chicago, IL. He transitioned this life on February 28, 2018, peacefully after a long illness. Fred and his siblings moved to Waynesboro, MS to live with their Grandparents at an early age. Fred was baptized at St. Luke Baptist Church (Waynesboro, MS) where his Grandparents saw that he and his sisters were raised to love God. In 1\964 his sisters returned to Chicago with their Father and he stayed after his grandfather died to be a help and comfort to his grandmother (Lena Woullard) and Aunt Margie Woullard in Waynesboro, MS. Fred completed high school at Riverview High School in Waynesboro, MS in 1966. He was a good student and was involved in many activities, social and academic. He received an academic scholarship to college, and made the decision to attend Cohoma Jr. College in Clarksdale, MS. After he graduated, he went into the United States Army: serving his country in Germany and Vietnam (1968-1971). After he returned home he furthered his education at Jackson State University (Jackson, MS) and soon married Edna. Fred and Edna moved to Chicago, where they raised their five children and remained married for 47 years. Fred joined the Cook County Sheriff’s Department as a Correctional Officer (1975-1980), and later joined the Chicago Police Department. He served the City of Chicago (Tactical, Narcotics, retired from CPD Area 2) for 26 years until his retirement in 2006. After retirement, Fred was employed by the City Colleges of Chicago (Olive Harvey Community College) until retiring again. Fred loved his family and had many friends. In his spare time, Fred loved going to the casino, keeping immaculate care of his lawn, watching sports, and barbequing with family and friends. Fred had three siblings that preceded him in death: Clayton Woullard Jr., Delphine Woullard and Ronald Reid of Chicago, IL. Fred leaves to cherish his beautiful memories a wife; Edna M. Woullard of Chicago, IL; four sons: Fred (Stevese) Woullard Jr. of Chicago, IL; Thomas (Jackie) Woullard of Raleigh, NC; Eddie (Sasha) Woullard of Chicago, IL; Alfred Woullard of Chicago, IL; a daughter: Frieda (James) Sanders of Raleigh, NC; eleven grandchildren: Jamelia, Fred III, Jeremiah, Nicodemus, Devonte, Eddie Jr., Peyton, Alfred Jr., Joseph, Lauryn, and Isaiah; two great-grandchildren; five sisters: Theresa (Legrain) Winston of Goodyear, AZ; Cynthia Springer of Chicago, IL; Jean Harris of Chicago, IL; Janet (James) Smith of Hattiesburg, IL, Deborah Woullard of Harlingen, TX; three sisters-in-law: Patricia Everett, Ernestine (George) Campbell, Carolyn Wallace; special recognition: Aunt Susie, and Royale; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and friends.
