In Loving Memory of Our Beloved Evelyn Walker Williams

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Evelyn “Smooth” Walker Williams. A beacon of strength and fearlessness, she departed from this world on June 1, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of courage and determination that will forever inspire us.

Evelyn was born on December 20, 1937, in Gulfport, Harrison County, Mississippi, the daughter of Pinkie Lee Walker and Bruce K. Walker. Evelyn attended school in Gulfport, where she excelled academically and socially.

From a young age, Evelyn was a force to be reckoned with. Throughout her life, she fearlessly pursued her dreams, breaking barriers and defying expectations at every step. Her unwavering determination and resilience in the face of adversity served as a guiding light for all who knew her.

Evelyn held many jobs throughout her life, reflecting her versatility and dedication. She was a manager at Coulter Electronics in Hialeah, FL, a licensed hairstylist, a gas station clerk, and ultimately retired as a bus driver for the Miami Dade County Public School system. During her retirement she worked briefly as an attendant for the Biloxi Airport Administration.

Evelyn Walker Williams was known for her impeccable sense of style and fashion. Always dressed to the nines, she exuded elegance and sophistication wherever she went. Her love for travel took her to many places, enriching her life with diverse cultures and experiences. Evelyn was once an active member of the Elks Club and the Order of the Eastern Star, where she formed lasting friendships and contributed to her community. One of her most memorable achievements was styling the hair for the James Brown band before a concert in Miami, showcasing her exceptional talent and flair in hairstyling. Evelyn’s stylish presence and adventurous spirit left a lasting impression on everyone she met.

Evelyn was a source of strength and inspiration for her grandchildren, instilling in them the same fearlessness and determination that defined her own life. Her love knew no bounds, and her impact will continue to resonate in their lives for years to come.

She was preceded in death by her siblings Clara Gilmore, Velma Jones, Netterine Theodore, Laura Lee King, Wilma Walker, Bruce Walker Jr., Elray Jones, Wilbert Walker, Ervin Walker, and adopted siblings George Walker, Jeanetta Parker and Margaret Gibson. Evelyn’s daughter, Gwendolyn Brooker, also passed away on May 5, 2014.

Evelyn is survived by her grandchildren: Torrey Price, Evelyn Brooker, Jade Brooker, and Zuri Brooker; six great-grandchildren: Torrey Price Jr., Rolando Love, Sunshine Brown, Madison Price, Maya Price, and Jordyn Ramirez; numerous loving nieces and nephews, other relatives, and great friends.

Though she may no longer walk among us, Evelyn’s spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were touched by her strength, courage, and love. Let us honor her memory by carrying forward her legacy of fearlessness and compassion in everything we do.

Evelyn Walker Williams, you will be deeply missed but never forgotten. May you rest in eternal peace, knowing that your fearless spirit will continue to inspire us always.
