Ethel Louise Wood

May 3, 1941 — July 19, 2022

Biloxi

Ethel Louise “Nicholson” Wood, 81, was born in Coy, Alabama on May 03, 1941, the daughter of Johnny Nicholson and Bertha Smiley Nicholson Johnson. Ethel attended Compton College in California and received an Associate’s Degree. Ethel was married to Charles Edward Wood.

Ethel spent most of her working career in the culinary industry cooking in many military dining facilities across the United States as she traveled with her husband serving his twenty years in the Air Force.  She finished her career as a civil service cashier at the Keesler AFB commissary in 2012.

Anyone who knew Ethel well knew her as “Honey”!  She was one of the sweetest people you could have ever met.  She was loving and helped raise many of the children in her family and would help with anyone’s child she was given an opportunity to provide love and care for. She was kind, but she was also very firm.  Mrs. Ethel did not hold her tongue; she said exactly what she was thinking and it did not always come out bright and flowery. But, even in that tone you knew she still loved you and would do anything for you.

Ethel served at Main Street on the Usher Board before she became ill. She was also a very actively involved member of the Mississippi District 1 Jurisdiction Order of the Eastern Star for over 40 years. She loved to cook, and watch her favorite TV shows: Judge Judy, Jeopardy, The Young & The Restless, Bold & Beautiful, and any old Western “Shoot-em-Up” she could find.

Ethel was preceded in death by her husband Charles Wood, (2) brothers Johnny and Winston Nicholson, (5) Sisters Kathleen “Johnson” Bobbitt, Deborah Johnson, Belinda “Johnson” Taylor, Cynthia Johnson, and Patricia Johnson. (2) Son-In-Laws Martin Cotten and Bruce McClendon.

Ethel is survived by, (3) sisters Frances (Roger) Reynolds, Effie Johnson, and Brenda Bush. (2) Daughters Willie Ann Cotten and Charlotte McClendon. (3) Grandchildren Solitayr Cotten, Rebekah Cotten and Cameron McClendon. Her closest nieces and nephews Ashley (Jaiden) Williams, Selina (Malik) Johnson, Brandie & Bruce (Australia/Brandon) Turner, and Tara Johnson, and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends.
