Clara R. Mayfield

April 29, 1944 — September 12, 2024

Clara was born in Brewton, AL to the late Charles Edward Brown and Annie Pearl Blakely on April 29, 1944.  She attended and graduated from Southern Normal High School in Brewton, AL.

Clara became a mother of one son, Wendell, by Wilford Martin in 1965.  Later she would meet Joe Mayfield; and with his 2 children, Barbara and Robert, they became a family through marriage in 1974.

Clara accepted Christ at an early age and attended church when she could.  Clara was a longtime, supportive member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Ocean Springs, MS where she was a member of the choir.  She also sung in the Kessler Soul Choir in Biloxi, MS.  Clara remained an active member of her church until her health started to fail her.

Our Sweet Clara gained her wings on Thursday, September 12, 2024, and was peacefully called to Heaven from her earthly home in Ocean Springs, MS.

Clara was preceded in death by both her parents; Charles Brown and Annie Pearl Blakely; her husband Joe Mayfield; Special Mother Magnolia Brown; three brothers Charles Brown Jr., Clayton Brown, and Victor Brown.

Clara was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend.  She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters Brittney Mayfield of Ocean Springs, MS, Debora Walker of Los Angeles, CA, and Barbara (James) Douglas of Marion, LA; two sons Wendell Martin of Ocean Springs, MS, and Robert (Augustine) Mayfield of Mobile, AL; four sisters Barbara (late Harry) Sermon of Leesburgh, GA, Brenda (Tim) Bowens of Pensacola, FL, Cheryl Rogers of Pensacola, FL, and Dorothy Bostic of Biloxi, MS; four brothers Claude Brown, Kelvin Brown, Andre Brown, and Marvin Brown, all of Pensacola, FL; one aunt Rose Chambers of Charlotte, NC, one sister in law Janice (late Victor) Brown of Pensacola, FL; longtime friend Reba Johnson of Ocean Springs, MS; and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
