Mrs. Christine Jefferson Gage was born on March 5, 1941, to the late Victoria Mays Jefferson and R.C. Jefferson in Columbia, Mississippi. On June 28, 2026, she peacefully departed this earthly life to enter her eternal home with the Lord, in her home surrounded by the love and legacy she so beautifully created.
Christine spent her childhood and early adult years in Columbia, Mississippi, before making Gulfport, Mississippi, her home. There, she married the love of her life, the late Clarence Gage, and together they built a family rooted in love, faith, and strong values.
Christine loved God. Her unwavering faith was the foundation of her life and was evident in the way she loved, served, and cared for others. She was a founding member of Grace Temple Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Rossie L. Francis, where she accepted Christ and was baptized. She later united with People Mission Baptist Church, where she faithfully served as a devoted choir member, Mother in Zion, and Pastor's Aide to Pastor Lillie Nichols until her health declined.
Christine was a woman of grace, dignity, and wisdom. She believed in doing things with excellence and order, and she carried herself with quiet strength and compassion. She had a servant's heart and found joy in giving, encouraging, and helping others whenever she could. She never met a stranger; everyone she encountered was greeted with kindness, warmth, and genuine love. Her beautiful smile, gentle spirit, and generous heart left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
To her family, Christine was the heart of every gathering. She was affectionately known as "Mama" to her children, "Granny" to her grandchildren, and "Chris" to her many lifelong friends. She loved deeply, prayed faithfully, and gave selflessly. She was respected and cherished not only by her family but throughout her church and community. Her life was a shining example of what it means to love God, love people, and put family first.
Christine graduated from Turkey Creek High School and faithfully dedicated 27 years of service to the Air National Guard Training Site, where she retired as a Kitchen Aide. She had a passion for cooking, and her kitchen was always filled with love. Family and friends will miss her famous Thanksgiving dressing, delicious candied-yams, and unforgettable sweet potato pies, meals that nourished both the body and the soul.
Christine was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Clarence Gage; her parents, Victoria Mays Jefferson and R.C. Jefferson; her loving daughter, Sabrena Castro; her precious granddaughter, Kylah L. Gage; and ten siblings: Helen Ishman, L.S. Daniels, Beulah Christopher, Earnestine Jefferson, Geraldine May, Johnny Jefferson, Margaine Daniels, Charles Jefferson, Milton Jefferson, and Patricia Faison.
Though our hearts are heavy, we rejoice in knowing that her legacy will continue to live on through those she leaves behind to cherish her memory: her children, Micheal Christopher (Milwaukee, WI), Anthony Christopher, James (Tanita) Christopher, Antoine Gage, Alfred (Tasha) Gage, Monica Marsh (all of Gulfport, MS), Terrance Gage (Waukesha, WI), and Chaundra Ishman (Huntsville, AL); her son-in-law, Dennis Castro (San Antonio, TX); her sisters, Bettye (Perry) Quinn (Milwaukee, WI) and Carolyn Jefferson (Gulfport, MS); her dear and devoted best friends, Lettie White and Dorthy White; a close friend Marie Lewis, 35 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, 6 great great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and countless friends whose lives were forever blessed by knowing her.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at 11:00 am, at Grace Temple Baptist Church - Gulfport.
