Carina Shawna Shelly

Carina Shawna Shelly, a beloved teacher, mentor, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 40. Her warmth, compassion, and unwavering dedication to others left an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

Carina was born in St. Catherine, Jamaica, on October 7, 1985, the daughter of Imogene Williams and Rolton Shelly. She grew up with a deep love for learning and a natural gift for connecting with people. Carina graduated from St. Catherine High School and worked with the Ministry of Education & Youth in Jamaica. Carina pursued a career in education and attended William Carey University in Mississippi, earning a degree in Education. Carina’s passion for teaching and her genuine care for her students shone brightly every day. She believed in the potential of every child and worked tirelessly to inspire curiosity, confidence, and kindness in her classroom.

Beyond her professional life, Carina was known for her generous spirit and her ability to make others feel seen and valued. She was a source of comfort and encouragement to friends, colleagues, and family alike. She was simply “The Life of the Party”. Carina’s laughter, empathy, and strength will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to share in her life.

Carina’s legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched—through her teaching, her friendship, and her example of courage and love. Though her time was far too short, her impact will continue to ripple through the hearts of those she inspired.

Carina is survived by her devoted parents, Imogene Williams and Rolton Shelly, a loving sister, Chadene Shelly, and a host of family, friends, and the many students whose lives she helped shape.

Carina’s celebration of life, where her community will gather to honor her memory and the extraordinary light she brought into the world, will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 11:00 am at Infinity Church, 4031 Popps Ferry Rd. D’Iberville, MS 39540.  Visitation will start at 10:00 am.
