Alvin Ray Clark, Sr., passed away on December 2, 2025, in Gulfport, MS, at the age of 75. He was born, as a twin, to Sherryl Faye (Johnson) on August 3, 1950, in Yoakum, TX, to Robert and Lottie Mae Clark.
Alvin enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1970 and completed his enlistment with 20+ years of service. His service took him across the world to places like Japan, the Philippines, and Embassy duty in Jakarta, Indonesia. In Indonesia, he met and fell in love with the beautiful Elly Susanti Latif. The two were married for over 52 years at the time of his passing. To their union, were born Alvin, Jr., twins - Sabrina and Dewi, and the youngest of the bunch, Chitra. The Corps sent the family to Camp Pendleton, CA; Yuma, AZ; Camp Lejeune, NC, and ultimately to Twentynine Palms, CA.
During a period of innocence and goodwill in society, Alvin became known to his children's friends and the neighborhood as the Candyman. He would hop on a bike and whistle the Candyman song, as all the kids would come running and screaming THE CANDYMAN! With permission from parents, Alvin would pass out candy to all the children. Even for 40 and 50-year-old adults, he is endearingly remembered for this.
Alvin was known for sharing the same love for puzzles as his mother. He often spent late nights blasting oldies like Marvin Gaye and Otis Redding, while completing 500+ piece puzzles. Fishing was a favorite pastime of his, that he especially enjoyed doing with his son and grandchildren on visits to Florida and Mississippi.
Alvin and Elly remained in California for 26 years. Their children moved into adulthood and ended up on the Eastern seaboard and in the South.
Alvin ended up visiting South Mississippi in 2014 and remained there until his passing.
As a father, Alvin taught his children how to love unconditionally, how to give selflessly, and how to listen without judgment.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Verna M. Clark, and his parents.
Alvin will be sorely missed and remembered by those he is survived by: 4 children, Alvin (Carla) Clark, Jr., Sabrina (Les) Hamilton, Dewi Clark, and Chitra (Darius) Wilson. Informally adopted daughters, Christina Baer and Paula Shannon. 9 grandchildren: Kenya (Anna) Micelotti; Kaylia Clark; Asia (Alex) Coartney; Jaden Hamilton; Maylia Wilson; Marquise Hamilton; Setia Clark; Darius Clark and Dakari Hamilton. 1 great-grandchild, Susanti Mae Coartney, whom he affectionately called "Pretty Girl."
He is additionally survived by his twin sister, Sherryl Faye (Robert) Johnson; niece, Kimberly Johnson; nephew, Doye Johnson; and Aunt, Velma Collins, and a host of cousins.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 2:00 pm, at Infinity Funeral Home in Biloxi, MS.
