Adesarki Donker Adelabu, affectionately known as Sarki, passed away on May 20, 2025, in Gulfport, Mississippi, at the age of 71. Born Arthur Terry Pride on July 29, 1953, in Biloxi, Mississippi, Sarki's life was marked by resilience and a strong-willed spirit.
Sarki served his country well during his tenure in the United States Navy and further dedicated many more years of his career as a custodian for the Veterans Administration, demonstrating his commitment to serving those who served our country. Additionally, he worked as a bellman at local casinos, showcasing his willingness to assist others in the bustling environment of the hospitality industry.
Sarki held a special love for Ann Arbor, Michigan, where he lived for many years. He often described the city as akin to living in a garden, enthralled by its beauty. Despite his fondness for Ann Arbor, he cherished his return to the Mississippi Gulf Coast, relishing the opportunity to reconnect with old friends. A proud member of First Missionary Baptist Church - Handsboro, Sarki found community and comfort among his fellow congregants. He truly loved his church.
He leaves behind a legacy of love to his family, including his daughters, Tenisha Rice, and Teawna Pride, his son, Isaiah Pride, and Ariane Seymour, who was like a daughter to him, and 3 grandchildren. He is also survived by his loving sister, Jennifer (Willie) Pride Hollis, and brother, Derek (Andrea) Pride, and a true friend, Cheryl Welch Millender.
Sarki was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Pride and Velma Sheppard Mathis.
The visitation for Sarki will be held at First Missionary Baptist Church - Handsboro, located at 1100 E Pass Rd, Gulfport, MS 39507 on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, from 10:45 AM to 11:45 AM, with a funeral service beginning at 11:45 AM and burial with military honors at Biloxi National Cemetery at 1:30 PM
Sarki's spirited presence will be deeply missed. He has left an indelible mark on the lives of all who had the privilege to know him.
