Portia Thames White

Ms. Portia Patrice Thames White, age 40, of Biloxi entered into her eternal rest Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at Gulfport Memorial Hospital. Portia was a loving, kind-hearted and generous woman who grew up within the Biloxi community and school system. At an early age she was baptized and an active member of New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. Since she was not one to seek the spotlight, Portia could often be found working tirelessly behind the scenes to make any worship service, event or function a success. Her love for gospel music and sound preaching often led her to shed tears of joy. In her final months, she spent many days and nights testifying of the love and grace of Jesus Christ. As a daughter, granddaughter, niece, sister, cousin, wife, mother and friend, Portia was a well-spring of compassion and joy. No person went hungry, homeless or without an I love you around Portia. She believed in lending a helping hand and encouraging the downtrodden. Without question, this wealth of love will be missed, along with her sweet potato pies. Portia was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Charles and Canary Thomas, and her fraternal grandparents, Edward and Ruby Mae Burney Jones. Portia leaves to cherish her memory one son by birth, Delmost Deshun White and seven dearly loved stepchildren; her husband, Gene Paul White; her birth parents, Ms. Francis Thomas and Mr. Gregory Jones and her adoptive parents, Ms. Gwendolyn Jones and Mr. Joseph Thames of Sacramento, CA; four sisters, Ms. LaToya Walker of Dallas, TX, Ms. Shelita Thomas of DIberville, MS, Ms. Theresa S. Thames of Washington, DC and Ms. Shana McCord of Gulfport, MS.; two aunts, Mrs. Wanda Faye Daniels and Ms. Mae Rose Berry of St. Martin, MS; three great aunts and uncles, Ms. Geraldine Raine, Mr. Alfred Thomas and Mr. Landell Thomas all of Gulfport, MS.; six nieces and nephews, one great nephew and many other relatives and special friends. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 Saturday, November 19, 2011 at New Bethel Baptist Church with visitation one hour prior. The family of Ms. Portia Thames White has entrusted her care to the professional staff of RICHMOND-AUGUST FUNERAL HOME
