Larry Morgan

Bro. Larry Morgan was born to the union of his parents, the late Mr. David and Mrs. Clara Morgan on March 25, 1955 in Montrose, MS. On Saturday, August 16, 2014, at 6:30 p.m., Bro. Morgan answered his call from His Lord and Savior of labor to reward with family surrounding his departure. Although the family hearts are broken, their faith has remained strong throughout his brief illness. As a child growing up in Montrose, he attended the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. Also, Bro. Morgan attended public school for which he later graduated from Bay Springs High School in 1972. In pursuit of an education and a passion for music, Bro. Morgan attended and graduated in 1976 from the Alcorn State University of Lorman, MS with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education. Bro. Morgan relocated to the Mississippi Gulf Coast in the year of 1976, where he began working for Huntington Ingalls Industries Shipbuilding, for which he served for thirty-eight years as a General Pipe Foreman. Also, Bro. Morgan met and married the former Ms. Glenda Stewart of Biloxi. To this union of marriage, three daughters were born, Demetrius, LaQuita, and Candace. Their marriage was a highlight for the Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church in which it was a double ceremony with Glenda�s sister Carolyn and brother-in-law, Alfred D. Lewis. With a continued passion for music, Bro. Morgan was challenged by the former pastor, the late Dr. A. A. Dickey to fulfill his vision of leading and cultivating young people in the congregation. Under the eighteen year leadership of Pastor Dickey, Bro Morgan led the Young Adult Choir with vigorous and untiring gratitude which gained a nicknamed, �the �verywhere/Ever-ready Choir.� He continued to seek greater adventures for this group of young adults for which they traveled extensively across the southeastern parts of the United States. Bro. Morgan is credited for influencing young talented individuals to become great musicians and soloists. Upon the passing of Dr. Dickey, the current pastor, Dr. Kenneth M. Davis continued to utilize such a talented and dedicated person as Bro. Morgan. He served as the President and Director of the Young Adult and Sanctuary Choir; Director of the Male Chorus; Chairman of the Transportation Committee. As a committed and devoted Christian who exemplified a special love and care for humanity, Bro. Morgan believed in helping those that were in need. With his humility, he utilized his hobby of working on cars to help those that needed adequate transportation. Because of his knowledge and experience, he was considered the real life �MacGyver� when it came to repairing anything that needed to be fixed. He used what he had, whether it was a coat hanger, a bobby pin, or a curtain rod, he always found a way to accomplish the mission. Bro. Morgan is preceded in death by his parents, David and Clara Morgan; two brothers, Mr. Albert Lee Morgan and Mr. David Morgan, Jr., and one grandchild, Morgan Larry Maxwell. He leaves to mourn, but not without hope, a devoted wife Glenda, three daughters Demetrius (SFC DaMarcus) Roberts of Ft. Polk, LA; LaQuita (Steven) Maxwell and Candace (Ricardo) Bolton, Gulfport, MS. Three grandchildren: Dori�Yunn & DaMarcus Jr. Roberts and Steven Maxwell Jr.; two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Mae Wheaton of Chicago, IL; Miss Patricia Morgan of Michigan; eight sisters-in-law, Mrs. Georgia Morgan and Mrs. Carolyn (Alfred) Lewis of Gulfport, MS and Mrs. Hattie Morgan of Montrose, MS, Mrs. Janice (Ray) Brooks and Mrs. Tynita (Kelly) Steele of Gautier, MS; Mrs. Lechra (James) Lewis of Houston, TX; Miss Lynn Stewart of Biloxi, MS; two brothers-in-law Mr. Kara (Christie) Stewart of Gambrills, MD and Mr. Robert (Celeste) Dixon of Inglewood, CA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Services will be held Thursday, August 21, 2014 at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist in D'Iberville, visitation from 10:00 - 11:00AM with services beginning at 11:00AM. The family of Mr. Larry Morgan has entrusted his care to professional staff of Richmond-August Funeral Home.
